Built by two people who lived it.
Zera is a dating app for people ready for marriage. It exists because its founders were tired of endless swiping and chats that went nowhere.
Our story
Meet Josh & Lindsay
We tried the dating apps. We were ghosted mid-conversation, stood up for dates, and stuck in endless chats that never went anywhere. The more we looked at what was missing, the clearer it became: we wanted an app built around meeting in person, not endless swiping.
So we built the one we wished we’d had. Zera is designed to get you on a real date with the right person, and then out of the app for good.
How we match, and why
Faith first. Then everything that makes a marriage work day to day.
Sharing a faith is a strong foundation, but it isn’t the whole picture. Two people can believe the same things and still struggle with how they talk, how they show love and how they get through a hard week. So every Zera match looks at six areas, weighted toward what holds a marriage together.
Why faith carries the most weight
For most of our members, faith isn’t one part of life. It shapes how they spend Sundays, how they raise children, how they forgive and what they hope a marriage will be. When two people differ here, every other difference feels bigger. So faith counts for a quarter of every match, and you choose how much a shared faith matters to you.
The six areas
- Faith & beliefs · 25% Your church background, how often you’re at church, and the place you want faith to have in your marriage and your home.
- Marriage & family vision · 20% When you hope to marry, whether you want children, and how you feel about children either of you already has. Big differences here are hard to talk your way around later.
- Character & emotional health · 20% Honesty, how you handle disagreement, and how you feel close and secure with someone. Some ways of handling conflict fit together naturally; others tend to clash.
- How you love · 15% The five love languages: words of affirmation, quality time, gifts, acts of service and physical touch.
- Personality & pace · 10% Social energy, steadiness under pressure, dependability and curiosity.
- Values & everyday life · 10% Money, lifestyle, the things you love to do, and the core values you picked for your profile.
Why love languages matter alongside faith
Faith tells you whether you’re building on the same foundation. Love languages tell you whether you’ll feel loved in the house you build. The idea comes from Dr. Gary Chapman’s book The 5 Love Languages, which many couples and churches already use.
Most people show love the way they like to receive it, and that’s where couples miss each other. Someone who feels loved through quality time can feel lonely beside a partner who shows love by fixing things around the house, even when both are trying their best. So on Zera you tell us two things: how you like to give love and how you need to receive it. We match each person’s giving with the other’s receiving, in both directions.
Why personality matters
Personality is about daily rhythm: how much time with people fills you up, how you react when plans fall apart, how much you like routine or new things. A short quiz looks at the “Big Five” personality traits, the model psychologists study and use most: social energy, warmth, dependability, steadiness and openness. We describe yours in plain words, never as a label or a box.
The goal isn’t to find your twin. Some differences balance each other out, like a planner and a free spirit, while others tend to wear people down. We look for the pairs that tend to work well together, and steadiness under pressure counts for a lot.
What you see on every match
Every match shows its score, how complete the picture is so far, and a short list of what you two actually share. A few things we hold to:
- Nothing is guessed. A question only counts when you’ve both answered it, and the more you both answer, the clearer your matches get.
- Private answers stay private. Your match sees what you share, never your individual answers.
- No perfect scores. No one is ever shown as a 100% match. People are more than a number, and meeting in person is how you really find out.
Scores are a helpful guide, never a guarantee. Read exactly how matching works, and its limits.

What we believe
Marriage is worth doing well.
- Fewer, better matches. You get a few people at a time, chosen for what makes a marriage last, with a clear reason for each.
- Real dates, not endless chat. Every match has a simple path to meeting in person within 10 days.
- Kindness is the rule. No ghosting: ending a match takes one kind tap, and reliable members are recognized for it.
- Safety comes first. Verified photos, a safety check-in after every date, and a real person reviewing every report.
- Free to find your person. Getting to a real date never costs a thing.
Why “Zera”
A name that can grow.
Zera (זֶרַע) is the Hebrew word for seed. It also means offspring: children, descendants, the generations that come after. A marriage is where that kind of legacy begins, and it grows best from a firm foundation. Our part is helping you meet someone who’s also ready for marriage. What the two of you grow from there is yours.
